The radio can both transmit and receive (Tx/Rx) in the following bands:

- UHF (Ultra High Frequency): Frequency Range: 400-520 MHz
These ranges allow the UV-5R to communicate on both amateur radio frequencies and some commercial and public safety frequencies, making it a versatile choice for various communication needs
UV-5R Receiver Bands
The radio can receive (Rx) in the following bands:
- VHF: Frequency Range: 68 – 108 MHz, 136-174 MHz
- UHF: Frequency Range: 400-520 MHz
Note the inclusion of the FM receive band from 68 MHz to 108 MHz. The UV-5R can only receive Frequency Modulated signals over this range of frequencies.
