🙋 What Is Population Density?

Population density is a measure of how many people live in a certain amount of space.

In simple terms:

Population Density = Total Population ÷ Area

It’s usually expressed in people per square kilometer (km²) or per square mile (mi²).

So if a town has 10,000 people and is 5 km² in size:

Population Density = 10,000 ÷ 5 = 2,000 people/km²

That means it’s a pretty packed place!

📍 Why Population Density Matters

Population density helps us understand:

  • How urban or rural a place is
  • Planning for housing, roads, and public services
  • Resource distribution like schools, hospitals, and water
  • Environmental impact and land use

It’s a key stat for governments, researchers, and city planners — and super interesting for travelers and curious minds too!
