Frameo Not Connecting to Wi-Fi (Easy Solutions!)

The Frameo digital photo frame relies on a Wi-FI connection to function optimally. This connection allows the frame to receive and display photos and videos sent from friends and family globally via the Frameo app.

If your Frameo digital photo frame is having trouble connecting to WiFi, here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue.

Basic Checks

Does the Frameo see Wi-Fi Networks?

If your Wi-Fi isn’t showing up in the list of available networks, a basic check is to see if the Frameo can see other networks. Check to see if the Frameo is able to identify other access points (e.g. a mobile hotspot or a neighbour’s Wi-Fi). If it’s able to then it means that the frame’s Wi-Fi works.

Does your Wi-Fi network support 2.4 GHz?

Note that the Frameo only connects to Wi-Fi networks operating at 2.4 GHz. It will not connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. So if your network is operating at 5 GHz, you will have to enable the 2.4 GHz radio.

What Channel is your Wi-Fi network operating on?

Wi-Fi networks are able to operate on any one of 14 channels. But if your network is set to operate on channels 12, 13 or 14, the Frameo won’t be able to connect to the Access Point. Make sure the channel is set to a number between 1 and 11.

If Frameo’s Wi-Fi is working and your Wi-Fi network is configured correctly proceed to the troubleshooting steps below.

Frameo Troubleshooting Guide

Important Do’s and Don’ts

Make sure to always use the power off button on the device or in the power menu to turn Frameo off.

⚠️ Never disconnect power when Frameo is running

Check Your Internet Connection

Frameo connects over Wi-Fi. Ensure your WiFi network is stable. You can do this easily by trying to connect your phone to Wi-Fi. Is it experiencing connectivity issues?

If so, then your Wi-Fi router might need to be rebooted or restarted. A hard reset (by unplugging the router power cable, waiting a minute and plugging it back in) might be all you need.

If this doesn’t resolve it go to the next step.

Remove Sources of Interference

Other wireless access points can interfere with yours and disrupt Wi-Fi communication between the Frameo and router.

One solution is to change the channel that your access point is operating on.

The other solution is – where possible, remove or turn off other wireless devices in the vicinity to reduce interference. This includes any other routers, other keyboards, or wireless mouse devices.

Restart Your Frameo

Restart the Frameo by power cycling it can often resolve temporary connectivity glitches. The first screen icon below is Power Off. The second one is restart.

Optimize the RF Signal

Ensure the Frameo is placed within a short distance from your WiFi router, away from thick walls or metal objects. This will ensure that the Received Signal Strength (RSSI) is strong. Read more about RSSI.

Check Power Settings

Frameo’s sleep mode feature is designed to conserve power by turning off the screen automatically.

By default, the screen turns off at 23:00 and powers back on at 07:00 daily. However, users have the flexibility to customize this schedule according to their needs.

Verify that the Frameo isn’t asleep or powered off.

Update Firmware

Make sure your Frameo is running the latest firmware version. Updates often include fixes that could resolve connectivity issues. Make sure your frameo is not powered off for extended periods of time, especially at night when firmware updates might be rolled out to devices.

Factory Reset

Last Resort: If other steps fail, consider a factory reset. Note that this will erase all settings and content, so back up any important data.

This is done by pressing the “Reset frame” button.

Note that this will delete all data on the Frameo and reset the Frameo to its setup screen

To reload the images that were in the Frameo prior to reset:

  • On the setup screen you can select the “Restore from backup” button which will restore your frame according to the backup.
  • If the “Restore from backup” button isn’t visible, then confirm that the external storage (e.g. microSD card) is correctly mounted.

Contact Support

If problems persist, contact Frameo support for more detailed troubleshooting or potential repairs. Frameo offers a warranty period and it’s easy to get the device repaired during that period (if there’s a hardware issue).
