๐ก Why Convert Annual Salary to Hourly Rate?
Knowing your hourly rate gives you a clearer picture of:
- The value of your time
- How your pay compares with hourly jobs
- What side gigs or freelance work need to earn to match your full-time rate
- Whether a salaried position is fair compensation for the hours you work
๐ข The Formula
The basic formula to convert salary to hourly rate is:
Hourly Rate = Annual Salary รท (Hours per Week ร Weeks per Year)
Assuming a 40-hour workweek and 52 weeks per year:
Hourly Rate = Annual Salary รท 2,080
โ Example
Letโs say you earn $60,000 per year.
Hourly Rate = 60,000 รท 2,080 = $28.85/hour
So even though your job is โsalaried,โ youโre effectively earning $28.85 per hour โ assuming you work 40 hours per week and donโt take unpaid leave.
If you regularly work more than 40 hours, your real hourly rate is lower.
