How to Fix G703 Scroll Wheel Failure Issue
In this section we first identify general solutions that are independent of operating system. This is followed by solutions for Windows users and then Mac users.
Use Cabled Mode
Use the provided USB cable to plug the mouse into the PC and operate it in wired mode. If the scroll issue disappears then it’s most likely a wireless connectivity issue. In this case try the following two tips.
Use the USB extender
The USB extension adapter allows the placement of the wireless receiver closer to the peripheral such as a mouse. The image below shows how this is done.
With this recommended placement, the strength of the wireless signal (RSSI) is improved. This in turn improves the quality of the wireless link.
Remove sources of RF Interference
Electronic devices such as Wi-Fi access points, Bluetooth and microwave ovens operate in the same 2.4 GHz frequency range as the G703 wireless mouse. As a result they can interfere and cause drop outs and intermittent loss of connectivity. Removing these devices from near the mouse will ensure a more robust wireless link and potentially resolve the scrolling issue.
Clean the Mouse
After ensuring that your mouse is connected and a flaky wireless connection is not the cause of the problem, look for dust or dirt accumulation in the scroll area. This might affect scroll detection and hence the efficiency of the mouse. Try cleaning your mouse using compressed air or a mouse cleaner.
This next tip also helps with dislodging any dirt or debris in the mouse which could impede the movement of the scroll wheel. Turn the mouse upside down and run the wheel in both directions for about 20-30 seconds.
After this try using the mouse and see if it works as normal.
Disconnect and Reconnect the Mouse
Like your favorite phone needs a restart sometimes, try disconnecting and reconnecting your G703. To do this unplug the Lightspeed dongle and plug it back in.
This process of reconnecting sometimes resolves the issue.
Update the Firmware
Logitech releases firmware updates for all their products. See if there’s a firmware update for G703 and install it. It will resolve the issue.
Replace the Scroll Wheel
It’s possible that the scroll wheel itself could be damaged. The first step is to check and see if your mouse is still under warranty. If it is, then we recommend contacting Logitech Support.
If it’s out of the warranty period then you could consider replacing it. A replacement wheel can be bought here.
Conclusion
We have researched and documented solutions for the G703 Scroll Wheel issue. We suggest trying all the standard solutions we have mentioned above. If none of these worked, check to see if the product is still under warranty.
